They may not be chaperones in the "purity-preserving" sense, but I would still expect them to be there to fix girls' hair and fetch things from their rooms, and perhaps provide a buffer/witness if someone is bothering them. I dunno; invisible servants are one of my peeves.
And I would expect Alanna, at least, to notice that Delia is spending a lot of time with Roger--that would give her a much more reasonable reason to dislike Delia than "she's too flirty!"
